FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, NY — October 9, 2025

New findings from Mount Sinai Hospital demonstrate hat AutoBMD™ AI can identify large numbers of patients with previously undiagnosed osteoporosis and low bone density on routine chest CT scans performed for lung cancer screening. The data were presented today by Mingqian Huang, MD (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) at the I-ELCAP 48th International Conference on Screening for Lung Cancer in New York City. Dr. Huang’s profile: https://profiles.mountsinai.org/mingqian-huang Mount Sinai Health System

“Opportunistic screening from existing CT scans can close critical gaps in osteoporosis detection,” said Dr. Morteza Naghavi, President of HeartLung AI, the provider of AutoBMD AI. “By leveraging AutoBMD AI on scans already acquired for heart and lung studies, health systems can surface clinically significant bone loss earlier—without added scan time, cost, or radiation—so patients at risk are not missed.”

About the study

Using AutoBMD AI to analyze standard low-dose chest CTs, investigators observed a substantial prevalence of patients meeting thresholds consistent with osteoporosis or osteopenia who had no prior diagnosis on record. The results underscore the value of integrating bone health assessment into comprehensive CT-based screening programs to enable earlier intervention, fracture prevention, and improved outcomes. (Detailed statistics and methodology available upon request.)

About AutoBMD™ AI

HeartLung's AutoBMD™ is an AI-powered, cloud-based solution for opportunistic bone mineral density measurement using existing CT scans. It is the only DEXA-equivalent, CT-based osteoporosis screening approved by the FDA, applicable to over 25 million CT scans annually and reimbursed by Medicare.
