Epicardial Adipose Tissue (EAT)
This is a space to tell users about yourself and your business. Let them know who you are, what you do, and what this website is all about. Double click to start editinEpicardial adipose tissue is fat located between the myocardium and the visceral pericardium, directly adjacent to the heart. AI-CVD automatically segments this compartment using the CT attenuation range of adipose tissue (-190 to -30 HU) and reports epicardial fat volume, body-size indexed values, population percentiles, and mean density where available. Elevated epicardial fat has been associated with coronary artery disease, metabolic syndrome, and atrial fibrillation. Because of its close anatomic relationship to the myocardium and coronary arteries, EAT provides a heart-specific measure of adiposity.g.
Pericardial Adipose Tissue (PAT)
Pericardial fat refers to adipose tissue surrounding the heart beyond the epicardial compartment. In AI-CVD reports, pericardial fat is quantified separately from epicardial fat so clinicians can distinguish fat immediately adjacent to the myocardium from other fat surrounding the heart. The report may include pericardial fat volume, body-size indexed values, population percentiles, and mean CT density. Together, epicardial and pericardial measurements provide complementary information about regional cardiac fat distribution.
Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT)
Visceral adipose tissue is fat located within the body cavity around internal organs and is distinct from subcutaneous fat beneath the skin. AI-CVD segments visceral and subcutaneous fat visible on axial CT images and can report visceral fat mass, indexed values, percentiles, subcutaneous fat mass, and the visceral-to-subcutaneous (V/S) fat ratio. These measurements provide a quantitative view of body-fat distribution that may help identify patients who warrant further evaluation for obesity-related or metabolic risk.
How to Interpret These Measurements
AI-CVD is an opportunistic quantitative imaging tool. These fat measurements are derived from existing or newly acquired CT images and are intended for clinician review. They do not diagnose a specific disease or provide an independent risk prediction. Results should be interpreted by a qualified healthcare provider together with the full CT examination, clinical history, laboratory data, and other relevant information. Except for coronary calcium scoring, AI-CVD modules are intended as opportunistic add-ons rather than as reasons to obtain a standalone CT scan.
